This particular Chinese Dragon has three toes. The Emperor of China was the only one allowed to have a 5 toed dragon, with 4 toes going to high ranking generals and officials. I didn't want to step on anyone's toes ((if you'll pardon the blatant pun)) so I gave mine three.
The year of the dragon has been an AMAZING time in my life. The last was when I was in 8th grade, going to middle school in Eagle River Alaska. It was then I had the BEST friends I will ever have. One of whom is still around today
At the time I was hell bent on starting a girl band with those friends, and was going to play an electric piano guitar... oh yah...
It was that year I won four Silver Medals at the Arctic Winter Games in Speed Skating. Putting my name in the papers "Armitstead Blazes to Silver!" "Armitstead needs just a minute for 500 Meters!" That was MY year. The year of the Dragon.
I still have my good luck Pendant that I bought the summer before. It's time to dig it out again and wear it once again.
Aside from the great history that this piece represents to me, its also a CRUCIAL milestone in my art. This is the FIRST time I have completed. Actually COMPLETED, each and every scale on a Chinese Dragon. I couldn't be more proud. As we move forward through 2012, may dragons breath light your way, and the strength of the dragon always be with in you.
Expect more Dragon art through out this year, hopefully ALL of which will be traditional.
