I really like how the horse is drawn, they can be quite tricky to draw especially when they're rearing. It also makes it slightly more difficult for me to critique on the anatomy but I do like it. You seem to have gotten the anatomy down quite well and I really like the effects you added with the shading on the horse and the way the mane rises as it rears. It's hard to capture movements in a way that makes the image seem alive and you have done just that. The splashed ink also adds an interesting effect, as though this were a sketch from perhaps half or even a whole century ago. This really is an outstanding horse image, it has a feel of majesty and power.

Wonderful work! Alltough I'm not a big fan of horses, I really like this work. It has a good feeling of strenght and natural power. The horse is drawn very well and you worked out all the details nicely. I wonder how you came to the idea with this cloud-like ink stains? They look very good and they really give this work the special touch. Just curious if you did this on intention or if you had a spot somewhere on the paper and decided to try this out then.
The only thing I think is not so good is that you stopped with the streaks on the leg I see on the right side very abrupt. On the other leg the lined shading goes much deeper and that's a little distracting me. But apart from this the shading technically is really awesome.
The spontaneous, organic feeling of this image is just lovely and fits the subject so well. It feels free and alive and full of movement. The choice of media is fantastic - the combination of refined technical line drawing with a loose wash works wonderfully. The cross diagonal composition is also very effective and adds to the movement nicely. For a crit, the horse's left hoof (our right) is bit bigger than the other (I know they're at slightly different angles but I don't think that allows for this large of a difference), and some of the shapes you've created with the wash are a little distracting, specifically the line curving off the page on the bottom left, the line moving up across the mane, and the really dark splotches on the top right. I think it might work a bit better overall if the wash's thicker, darker areas were limited to the horse itself and the bottom and thinned as it moved up the page; that would make it feel a little more like rising dust and take less attention away from the horse itself. But it's a very lovely image, and very memorable; I hope you'll continue to play with this approach as I think it's very attractive but could be even more successful with practice.
In the future it would be great to see your critiques broken up into either a more bullet point style, or smaller paragraphs.
As is its incredibly hard to try to read through the block text.
When it comes to working with ink, where the spaters fall and the form they take is incredibly organic and not really planned. Please do take that into consideration when talking about the specks and spots ^.^.
Before I go into an in-depth critique of this piece of work, let me start off by saying what a wonderful piece of artwork this is. The drawing shows a lot of skill and it a very powerful piece of artwork. Firstly I will start off with the Positives! The mane of the horse has been done with perfect strokes and it shows the horse in perfect motion. The strokes on the body of the horse also show confidence and skill and I love how the rear end of the horse merges beautifully with the black ink you've done in the background. The composition shows balance and the use of toned paper gives it a very ethereal feel The use of splattered inks in the background was very clever and goes with the overall drawing.
Negatives and suggestions for Improvement There is not much to say about this artwork because I really don't see anything that is negative yet.I can only suggest that if your strokes were a bit cleaner this would look better. Other than that i really don't think there is anything I would change about this piece of artwork
Overall,I think you have done an absolute justice to your artwork. the combination of pen and ink gives it a very strong and modern look and you have pulled it off excellently. I would love to see more work from you. This is rally awesome
This is a critique as part of the :iconFreedbackFrenzy: competition Pro: I really like the concept of this. It's great how organic the horse comes out of the inc. It's a really nice effect! Also the yellow to brown background give my a feeling of seeing a western work here. (It's probably really because of the pose of the horse and the colors) I truly like the horse, because it has so much life. His body seemed to quiver with excitement. The flying hair only emphasizes this. Also it's the art you draw this horse. It's very realistic, looking so well at important details like his hooves, his mouth and ears. Beside this, you have done the shadowing so well! I like the way you set fast, long strokes for the big areas like his stomach and than very thin and close one for his feed and head. And in the same way you trace his muscles is awesome! He gets so much volume and plastical feeling though this.
Improvement There is really not much, I can say, which would make it better! It's a wonderful artwork right now. I could imagine that, if you make his neck a bit slimer, it would look a bit more majestic. But other than that, it's just awesome.
Overall Impression I'm really impressed by the idea of combinate inc drops with this and letting come a horse out of inc. Also this inc drops generate a scenery like the horse raise dust. A great work
You're welcome ^^ I felt it was deserved! I rarely have time to leave comments but after seeing this I had to gush over it some ^^ Plus I love it when people comment on mine so I thought it would be appreciated!
I love this! I love the shading and the raw power this piece gives off. The chaotic ink splashes and the almost orderly shading on the horse's muscles contrast nicely with each other, and the pose of the horse itself look like its bursting out of the black splashes. A very powerful piece indeed
SQUEEEEE! I think this is the BEST write up I have ever gotten on this piece. You GET what this piece is all about and I can't tell you how much that pleases me! I will be offering prints of this if'n you are ever interested
